Community Supported AgricultureDue to a very stressful, yet educational 2009/2010 season and having to deal with serious family illness, we will spend the 2011 season reorganizing our Farm Share Program. Please check back in early 2012. |

What is CSA? At its heart, a CSA farming operation is a combined effort between a farm and a community of supporters ("harvest shareholders" or "members") that creates a direct relationship between the production and consumption of food: Each season the harvest shareholders provide the money (and sometimes other resources) needed for the farm to operate by purchasing a "harvest share" of the season's harvest. Operating costs include seeds, labor, growing supplies, and soil building amendments. By making this commitment a harvest shareholder assumes with the farmer the risks and rewards of growing the food they will eat. In turn, the farm distributes to the harvest shareholders the production of the farm: a wide variety of seasonally harvested fresh produce, on a weekly or every-other-week basis, throughout the growing season. A Full Season Farm Share typically consists of a weekly box of fresh vegetables for 18 to 24 weeks starting in June/July and lasting into October/November. There is also an option for an every-other-week share for those who may have a smaller family or don't cook at home as often. We are currently discussing the possibility of offering a prepackaged box of fresh vegetables which may be purchased on a weekely basis. Based on customer and potential customer feedback, here is a list of most popular farm share vegetables: Carrots, Broccoli, Cucumbers, Potatoes, Sweet Corn, Green Beans, Lettuces, Onions, Tomatoes, Herbs, Spinach, Peppers, Bell and Hot, Scallions, Squash, Beets, Eggplant, Radishes, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Snap Beans, Pumpkin. And the most suggested vegetable: Cauliflower. Expect some surprises too! Look for us in 2012!In the meantime: |
