What is CSA? At its heart, a CSA farming operation is a combined effort between a farm and a community of supporters ("harvest shareholders" or "members") that creates a direct relationship between the production and consumption of food: Each season the harvest shareholders provide the money (and sometimes other resources) needed for the farm to operate by purchasing a "harvest share" of the season's harvest. Operating costs include seeds, labor, growing supplies, and soil building amendments. By making this commitment a harvest shareholder assumes with the farmer the risks and rewards of growing the food they will eat. In turn, the farm distributes to the harvest shareholders the production of the farm: a wide variety of seasonally harvested fresh produce, on a weekly or every-other-week basis, throughout the growing season. Please read the Farm Share Agreement before making your purchase. The 2010 Full Season Farm Share will consist of a weekly box of fresh vegetables for 22 weeks starting in June and lasting into November. There is also an option for an every-other-week share for those who may have a smaller family or don't cook at home as often. For those who were unable to purchase a share at the beginning of the year, an option for ordering a pre-packaged box will be posted on the order page one week before delivery. Check back weekly to see what is available. There are three tentative locations and days of the week you may pick up your box, two in Portland and one in Scappoose. They will be announced as soon as they are confirmed. Shares may be purchased now or a deposit may be made to reserve your share for the season. Go to our Order Page and either download an order form/agreement and mail in a check or money order or pay with a credit card. All shares must be paid for in full by May 1, 2010 so we can continue farm production. Based on customer and potential customer feedback, here is a tentative list of vegetables we plan to grow this season: Carrots, Broccoli, Cucumbers, Potatoes, Sweet Corn, Green Beans, Lettuces, Onions, Tomatoes, Herbs, Spinach, Peppers, Bell and Hot, Scallions, Squash, Beets, Eggplant, Radishes, Bok Choy, Cabbage, Snap Beans, Pumpkin. And the most suggested vegetable: Cauliflower. Expect some surprises too! We thank you for putting your trust in us andlook forward to having you become a part of Dart Creek Farm! |
